Reflection Prompt

~2 min read The Art of Domestic Harmony

Ask yourself: How do I currently show appreciation to the people who support the home? Do you do it enough? If not, why? Is it forgetfulness, discomfort, or a misconception that an overly formal distance must be kept? Identify one barrier and plan to overcome it. For example, if you feel awkward saying mushy stuff, know that you can still express gratitude in your own straightforward way. Or if you simply forget, those calendars and routines can help.

Then, brainstorm: What's one celebration ritual I can introduce this month? Maybe start modestly: decide that on the last Friday of this month, you'll treat the staff to pizza lunch and say a few words of thanks. Or initiate a monthly "Best Idea Award" where you reward a staff suggestion that helped the home. Or even simpler: start writing one thank-you card a month to a team member.

Finally, remember that celebration is culture made visible. It's how you tell your staff: "You matter. You belong. You are seen." And people who feel seen will shine. They'll take on challenges with a brighter attitude, and they'll likely stick around in this "home" you've created at work because it feeds not just their pocket, but their pride and heart.

In the marathon of managing a home, think of celebration as those timely cups of water offered to the runners. It keeps everyone going strong to the finish line.
