Sample Hiring Questions
Use your interview to feel out skills, temperament, and alignment. Tailor questions to the role, but always include ones that reveal character and habits.
For a cook: "If I ask for less oil in my food, how would you adjust?" or "What's your system for keeping the kitchen clean while cooking?" (You learn how they take feedback and maintain standards.)
For a housekeeper: "How do you keep track of what's been cleaned and what hasn't?" or "What do you do if you accidentally break something?" (You learn about their organisation and honesty.)
For any role: "What kind of family or home have you worked best with in the past?" and "How do you prefer to receive feedback or corrections?" (You learn what environment they thrive in and if they have a growth mindset.)
The goal isn't to grill them with a corporate QandA, but to have a conversation that reveals patterns. Notice not just their answers, but their comfort in discussing these scenarios. Are they defensive? Thoughtful? Confident? Treat the interview as the first step in building trust.
